Ok! So remember this blog is about nutrient dense food and great travel!! Nutrient dense however is a play on words! While I am very passionate about great food that is nutrient dense and healthful for your body, I believe a departure to food that is also healthy for your soul is a must now and then.
A recent family wedding brought my husband and me back to our home state of Louisiana. We had a day to roam around and explore our old stomping grounds. While much had changed,we knew that the food probably had not. Everyone knows you can only get authentic Cajun and Creole food in Louisiana. The one thing I was craving over everything else was a good link of *Boudin (pronounced “Boo-Dan”) while my husband wanted cracklings! With technology at the tip of our fingers, we did a quick search and it pointed us to this little Cajun gem: Quebedeaux’s (pronounced “Coo-buh-doughs”) and it did not disappoint. The owners are a husband and wife team who bring their Spanish and Cajun heritages together to create food that is absolutely delicious!

We felt warm and welcomed as soon as we walked through the doors!! This is also one thing that will not disappoint while you are in the Deep South…..GOOD OLE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY!!!! Kacee’s smile and deep southern accent pulled us in and we felt like family!
K – Welcome to Quebedeaux’s! Can I help you?”
Me- Yes you can! We heard this is the best place for boudin!
K- It sure is!!
Me- Well then We will take a couple links of boudin, one of those gigantic boudin balls and some cracklings!!
K- Anything else?? Coming right up! Thank you!
Within just a couple of minutes our food was already out and with a smile and boy it did not disappoint!!

Oh my gosh! Let me tell you! The boudin was delish! The perfect blend of meat and spices; not too hot but definitely not bland either. But just in case you have never heard of boudin or even had the first bite let me explain this most wonderful Cajun/Creole staple!! Boudin is a mixture of rice, ground pork, and spices stuffed into a sausage casing and baked to perfection! Boudin Balls on the other hand is the same mixture but sometimes altered for different flavors, then rolled into a ball in a flour mixture and deep fried. Our boudin ball was delish!
Cracklins, which is just pork skin cut into nice size chunks and deep fried is another southern staple and especially in Louisiana. The cracklins at Quebedeaux’s were some of the best we’ve ever had!! The skin was very crispy, there was a good amount of meat on each one and the fat was not overpowering like in a lot of cracklins you find in other places.

All in all, we loved everything about Quebedeaux’s! Like I stated earlier, from the moment we stepped in to the time we left, everything was perfect! Great Southern Hospitality!! Amazing Cajun Food!! And a real authentic ambiance!! Our weekend to central Louisiana was perfect! We got to enjoy seeing our friends and witnessing a truly beautiful wedding of two very special people and we got to eat some amazing food!!!
